Xray Win the Day as HB Win the War!
Olly Jeffries/HB/Nosram/Edit/Orion Win Carpet Wars!

Following an exciting fifth round of the Carpet Wars series Mirage team driver Olly Jefferies was confirmed winner of the modified class at this seasons Carpet Wars championship.

Driving his Nosram powered HB Cyclone Olly needed a good finish to secure the title after dominating the three rounds he had previously contested, he did not race at the fourth round which was won by Elliott Harper with his Xray T2'008. Elliot and a number of other drivers were in with a chance of the title, but with Olly only needing a top three finish at this round the cards were stacked heavily in favour of the HB driver. Glen Doman and Lee Woodhams were also in with a chance of taking the title down to the wire and a shoot out at the last round, but for Olly it was case of nailing this title this weekend if possible.

Sunday morning saw a cold start to proceedings but once racing was underway things soon hotted up. Kevin Brunsden was quickly on the pace, as was fellow Xray driver Sam Smith. Olly at this time was struggling down in tenth spot with car problems. As the pace quickened Olly posted a time which moved him up to fifth and set up a last round do or die run for pole. Despite having to start fifth in the last round Olly got on to FTD pace but was piped in the dying seconds by Andy Childs. Olly eventually losing out by one hundredth of a second leaving him second on the grid. Sam Smith was the surprise of qualifying putting his Xray T2'008 an excellent 5th on the grid, Kevin Brunsden lined up third also with his Xray.

Olly had a rare nightmare final which saw him make contact with Andy early on, both drivers recovered, then were collected by the rest of the field, dropping Olly down to last place. Olly limped the Cyclone home in sixth place but as other results went his way, this was enough to give him the modified title.

Kevin Brunsden took over the mantle of top Mirage driver and he took the A final win from Glen Doman after a close race that could have been anyone's right up to the last lap. This result leaves Kevin with a good shot of taking second in the series at the final round.

The modified B final saw a convincing win for Luke Hobson with his Xray, Luke struggled in qualifying but dominated from the front and finished in a time that would have been worthy of mid A final time.

Olly adds this title to the Rug Racers modified title he won two weeks ago at Woodson Park. With two major winter scalps under his belt Olly and the rest of the Mirage team now turn their attentions to this weekends Carpet Wars World Cup two day meeting and another title to add to the growing collection!
