Skelding/Nosram/Edit 4WD Champions!
Lowe/Nosram/GRP/Edit 2WD Joint Champions!Race Report by Adam Skelding BRCA N.E. Indoor Regional Championship - Round 4. After a long journey almost to another country, the Temple Park Leisure Centre was host to the 4th round of the N.E. Indoor Regional Championship. After 2 perfect scores from the previous rounds, I only needed a 6th to give me an unassailable point's total. ![]() Qualifying went well, with the emphasis on making sure I was in the final after rounds 1 and 2 so I could then push on for TQ. With a 3rd in round 1 and a 1st in round 2, I was going to be comfortably in the final. Round 3 didn't go quite so well, whilst on for TQ'ing the round, I got caught up with a back marker which ended up ruining my run. Round 4, I took a gamble on putting on new tyres, knowing that they would be good enough for the final, but they may not be suited to the high grip track. The gamble seemed to be paying of as I was on for TQ in the round again, but then I made a few errors, I then pushed for the last couple of minutes to see what the limit of the car was and to scrub in the tyres for the final. ![]() Qualifying 3rd on the grid was pretty good as long as I could stay out of trouble for the first few laps. A clean start was had by the top 4 and although the racing was real close for the first 4 or 5 laps there was no contact.... There had been a midfield clash and a gap had soon opened up between 4th and 5th. After the 2 minute mark, I found myself in 2nd after a couple of mistakes from Chris Long and David Snee, I tried to give Chase to Gregg Williams who was on fire, but there was no catching him. Local hero David Snee was out of retirement and on a mission in the final and also now all over me. I lifted on the straight to let him through, no point getting caught up in a race I didn't want. So I sat back in 4th, wound the window down, put on one of the Stigs Baroque Classics and stayed clear of the pipes. ![]() The race was won by Gregg Williams, who had driven well all day and was unlucky not to take TQ. An up and coming star of the future I think, David Snee took second whilst Chris Long took third with me finishing 4th underneath him. I'd done enough to take the championship, which was the goal for the day. The D4 is now proving more than a match for the established competition and a year of hard work on setups is now bearing fruit. A special mention for new Mirage team member and HB D4 Driver Graham North who built his car on Saturday night, only getting a few hours sleep before then setting off for the meeting. Graham qualified 5th with the HB D4 on his debut outing with the car. In the final Graham got some bad breaks, but still managed to come home in 8th. Graham was impressed with the ease of build of the D4 kit and also the amount of steering generated even in full time 4wd mode Welcome to the team Graham. ![]() Also, New Mirage Team Driver (Nosram / GRP / Edit) Richard Lowe took the spoils in 2wd after qualifying 4th and also having some big car trouble with the local yobs. Richard calmly drove from 4th on the grid pulling a move on Stuart Wood on the last lap to take victory and enough points to become Joint Regional Champion in 2wd. Both drivers scoring the same points in the same way so a tie was called. Well done Richard! With the ever growing number of drivers choosing the D4 as their ride for 2008, and the teams growing knowledge and setup information on the car, expect the D4 to be in for more Top honours in 2008.
