Griff Grabs Title!
BRCA 1/12 National Series Round 4 - Tamworth

The 15th and 16th December saw the HB/GRP/Nosram team make the short journey to Tamworth for the fourth round of the BRCA 1/12th National Series, the Saturday was given over to 19 turn racing and Sunday saw the ultra fast Open motor class being run alongside the new Sportsmans class.

Saturday

A very dusty, low grip track greeted the racers venturing out onto the track for Practice and Round 1 of qualifying, but by Round 2 the track had cleaned up and a very close qualifying battle ensued. HB/GRP/Nosram driver Andy Griffiths just missed out on TQ to Chris Kerswell, but still enjoyed his best 19 turn qualifying performance of the year. Joining Andy in the A final were his team mates Mark Stiles, Mick Farrell and new team recruit Chris Clarke, who was revelling in the handling of the Cyclone 12 chassis. Welcome to the team Chris!

An incident during the first lap ruled Andy out of contention, and he was later to retire with a damaged car. Mick picked up the chase and led the final for a period, but was destined to retain his title of the best 1/12th driver never to win a National, a small error on an unforgiving track leaving him with too much work to do to get back to the front of the field. Keith Robertson meanwhile, kept a calm head and drove to an impressive victory, although his weekend was due to take a turn for the worse within 24 hours...

Sunday

With many drivers still suffering from the after effects of the previous evening's Christmas Party Andy Griffiths took the TQ spot in Round 1 and held on to it all the way through qualifying, again being joined in the A final by Mick Farrell, Mark Stiles and Chris Clarke. Saturday winner Keith was never able to tame a grip roll problem and ended up with pole in the D final to show for his efforts.

Andy took the lead at the start of the A final and then proceeded to drive away from the field to take the win. This now means that Andy has won all four of the Open Modified rounds held so far, and with the best four scores to count, confirms him as the 2007/2008 BRCA 1/12 Open Modified Champion, also winning the Hot Bodies Cyclone 12 this prestigious title in it's debut season. Mick Farrell drove a sensible race to fourth, and this, combined with an E final win for James Stewart secured the team prize for the HB/GRP/Nosram team.

The team would like to thank the Tamworth club for their efforts over the course of the weekend.
