Cramlington 12th scale BRCA National
This was our first visit to Cramlington for a National race. This meeting replaced the Teesside event that we have raced at for many years. We were greeted by a good sized track with a mainly fast layout, but also a tight section in the infield, that would really test the cars.![]() 19 turn Saturday Once we got going on Saturday, it was immediately obvious that the track was perfectly flat and had excellent grip, which increased throughout the meeting, causing some cars to grip roll. Qualifying proved to be extremely tight, with less than a lap splitting all the top 10 drivers, and the top 7 places split by only a few seconds. In the end it was Keith Robertson 1st from Chris Kerswell 2nd and Andy Griffiths in 3rd with his HB Cyclone12. Mark Stiles also put his HB car into the A final. 19 Turn A Final There was a clean start to the A final, with the top 4 drivers holding their grid positions for the first few laps. A mistake from Andy dropped him down the field and gave the front two drivers a chance to get away a little. An unfortunate collision with a back marker put Keith out of the race, and Chris made the most of his opportunity to cruise to an excellent victory. Behind Chris a great battle developed going into the last lap, as a slowing Matt White had Russ Williams and a fast recovering Andy Griffiths closing down quickly. All three went through the last chicane together, and a mistake from matt let the chasing two through, with Russ just holding Andy off as they crossed the line. Congratulations to Chris on his first 12th National victory. ![]() The HB/GRP/Nosram team won the team prize after some strong performances in the finals, to take home the chocolates. Open Modified Sunday With the modified motors strapped into the cars on Sunday morning, the speed of the brushless Nosram Storm Evolution motors used by the HB/GRP/Nosram team was truly awesome, and made the track great fun to drive. Andy Griffiths was the quickest in qualifying, his Cyclone12 handling the fast track excellently, and his Nosram batteries and brushless motor and speedo giving him loads of speed and duration. Andy took TQ, with Mark in a great 3rd place on the grid and Mick Farrell also making the A final. Open Modified A Final The A final was dominated by Andy, who gradually pulled away at the front from Russ Williams, who was well clear of Chris in 3rd. Mick and Mark both had a close race, both managed to finish in the midfield of the A with a solid performance. The team used Orion, Nosram, GRP and Edit products in both events. ![]() Nosram Matrix Evolution Brushless Speed Control Nosram Big Mama VTEC 4200 cells Orion Intellect 4200 cells Nosram Receiver GRP 12th Scale Tyres HB Reynard Bodyshell Nosram Storm Evolution Brushless Motors ![]() The team would like to thank all the people who made the event possible, especially Mark Jewitt and the members of the BRCA who put a lot of effort into the track and the whole meeting. |
