BIWS Round 1 Report
BIWS kicks off in style!![]() This year the Mirage supported British Indoor Winter Series has had a few new ideas implemented to improve the atmosphere and the meetings in general, unfortunately a couple of these things did not happen to the fullest but will happen later in the season. This season sees a new race format of 3 rounds plus 2 finals with points awarded for final placings only and in the event of a tie the fastest final time wins. This means that all you have to do in qualifying is make the A final and you have as much chance as anyone else in their to win. The controlled tyres where once again the Nosram VTEC 27R's which yet again proved that only one set is needed as tyre wear is very low throughout the day. ![]() Practice started a little bit later than planned due to the organisers having to finish things off as they were not allowed usual access to the facility the day before. Plus with this meeting being the first one in the championship there were a few things to polish before things got started. The traction is always rather low in practice especially until the heaters warm up the track so there were a few incidents but the great thing about the low traction is that it equalises the power of all cars with stock usually lapping the same pace as mod. ![]() This season the big guns from the stock and 19 turn championships last season have entered modified. This leaves the classes the way they should be and the racing proved to reflect this. We had a full entry of 120 drivers with 50 in 27 turn, 40 in 19 turn and 30 in modified. 27 Turn Stock It was a one two on the A final grid for XRAY with Thomas Daley and Adam Howe leading the way with Steve Dyche in third with his Corally. Times were close with all the drivers apart from the TQ man on 16 laps. There were 4 XRAY cars and 1 Hot Bodies car in the top10. Overall A Final result 1 Adam Howe - XRAY 2 Thomas Daley - XRAY 3 Jeremy Clarke 4 Darius Walker - XRAY 5 Paul Boult 6 Nigel Shaw - XRAY 7 Matthew Tuplin 8 Richard Binnersley 9 Steve Dyche 10 Tom Hudson - Hot Bodies 19 Turn The battle for pole position was very tight in the ultra close 19 turn class with Luke Thorley and Chris Clark covered by less and two hundredths of a second with Luke Humphrey a second back driving the XRAY. Once again all drivers were on 17 laps apart from the top 2. there were 2 XRAY cars and 2 Hot Bodies cars in the top 10. Overall A Final Result 1 Chris Clark 2 Leon Morrell 3 Luke Throley 4 Adam Richardson - Hot Bodies 5 Mark Jordan 6 Luke Humphrey - XRAY 7 Chris Whitely 8 Matt Dunning - Hot Bodies 9 Chris Lovely - XRAY 10 Michael Ball ![]() Modified 5 cell brushless was obscenely fast around the DV track and it was Stew Noble who put in a flawless run to take TQ three tenths ahead of Ben Cosgrove. Off Road Hot Bodies driver Adam Skelding was third with a very impressive time in qualifying. There were 2 XRAY and 3 Hot Bodies cars in the top 10 ![]() Overall A Final Result 1 Ben Cosgrove - XRAY Nosram 2 Stewart Noble - Hot Bodies Nosram Orion 3 Elliott Harper - Hot Bodies Nosram 4 Sam Smith 5 Alistair Graham - XRAY Nosram 6 Dan Fallows 7 Adam Skelding - Hot Bodies Nosram 8 Jonathon Aird 9 Dave Allen 10 James Hart There will be a few improvements made to the next round but the general opinion was that everybody had a good day out and will be back for the next round on the 18th November.
