The final of the Nott's n Derby / Nookraceway interclub meeting went right down to the wire in both nitro and largescale classes.

But as all of the nitro drivers are from The Nook, it looks like a win for The Nook!



In the Largescale class there were 4 contenders for the win at the penultimate round last weekend, with Andy Blackburn absent due to the London Marathon it was down to 3, Martin Fallowfield, young James Macarthy and myself.

Both James and I having terrible qualifiers, James was out first with terminal radio problems due to the rain. Even starting from dead last I had managed to get up to third before the engine cut out for the last time, (again due to water in the engine)
I was still credited with 5th place at the end, but Martin had won it, meaning I had to win the last meeting at Nott's and Martin had to do worse than 3rd for me to win it.



The first round gave the best grip and round one times were not beaten due to it drizzling , I had managed 4th after a bit of bad luck with lapping back markers and slow marshalling, never mind, it happens to everyone. But that put me 4th straight into the A final. Martin had had a nightmare and found himself way down in the B final with some work to do (top 3 bump up) any way he managed to win the B final, so I knew he would be charging from the back of the pack.

The track had started to dry out for the final and my Team Mirage, HPI Baja SS #HP10611 was primed and ready to go, I knew I had to go for it right from the off.
The racing was fierce but fairly clean, I had managed to get to the front but James Mac was not going to let me go, he pushed me managing to over take three or four times, one time in the air over the 4 meter jump, impressive but in those conditions it was risky, it didn't pay off for him in the end and I managed to secure the victory.



But what of Martin?
I still did not know that Martin had been knocked out with mechanical failure.
Even though we had drawn on points, I had won the winter series due to having the most round wins!



A great winter series all round! I hope will be doing again next year.
